Alegra M Bartzat, BS, MFAAlegra earned her Bachelor of Science in Ecology & Conservation Biology from the University of Texas at Austin, with emphases in Tropical Ecology and Wetlands Ecology. She continued her education at San Diego State University, receiving her Master's of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. These two educational disparities have come together in her career as a science educator. She worked at the San Diego Environmental Foundation's EcoCenter for Alternative Fuel Education and UC Davis' agricultural education and research division, the UC Cooperative Extension in San Diego County before joining the ScienceBridge team.
Alegra is the Program Coordinator for ScienceBridge's Science Leadership Society. She works with a lot of collaborating programs and labs on campus to put on leadership events for high school students and undergradaute students.
Events such as BODIES: The Amazing Human Race, Science Gone Wild, and Pharmacy Day are examples of these leadership programs, where the roles of teacher and student mingle. Professionals and graduate students teach both undergradautes and high school students about science. The undergraduates lead the high school students as role models, and the learning culminates when the high school students return to school and teach or lead their peers!
