Vertex Intern Networking: Amazing Experiences!

IMG_2289Vertex San Diego has partnered with the UCSD ScienceBridge Program to extend our networking connections and continue to give students a hands-on learning opportunity.  The Human Resources team worked with UCSD to have 3 summer interns funded through a Howard Hughes Scholarship grant.  We had a total of 9 interns this summer working in our Core, Biology, Chemistry and Pharm Dev teams.

Vertex mentors guided their interns to develop science rigor, learn how to put together a poster and present while also enhancing their own leadership and teaching skills.  According to Tim Neuberger, "Seeing science through the eyes of an intern reignites my passion!"

Interns seized the opportunity to showcase their projects and discuss their work at the Intern Fear & Fun on August 14.  Employees were impressed with the accomplishments and science knowledge explained by all nine interns.  Alysha Madon and Angela Yu were selected to participate in San Diego Science Day and share their posters.

"Prior to my intern position I didn't know what I wanted to do after graduating in June 2010," said Alysha.  "Now I know I want to work in industry, hopefully at Vertex and then attend graduate school."

"My experience has been great here and the best part is the individuals I interact with are very supportive," said Waseem Gazale.
