Students will learn that odors are molecules that have a specific shape. Students will also learn why chemists write chemicals the way they do!

This activity was created to associate students' sense of smell with odorant organic molecules for them to realize that smells—or odors—are molecules that have a specific shape and trigger a series of chemical reactions that gives us our sense of smell. Students will be able to recognize and make observations about the various smells and begin to be able to recognize variations of several functional groups and learn how to draw these molecules themselves.
