Socrates Project: Life is Organic Chemistry

Gerald French is a biology teacher and lacrosse coach at Montgomery High School. He has a B.S in biology and M.A. in Teaching Biology from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

He has been teaching science (mostly bio but some chem and Earth sci) for 13 years (4 in Douglas, AZ). He started the lacrosse program at Montgomery in 2001 and has watched interest in the sport slowly grow over the years. At Douglas HS in Az he started an Environmental Science Club that worked closely with the US Forest Service on restoration projects (has some great pictures) and conducted annual solar cooking competition at the middle school.

For three years at Montgomery he coached students for competition in the National Ocean Science Bowl sponsored by Scripps Institute and organized student clean-up of the portion of the Otay River Park that runs behind his school. He is currently involved in the ScienceBridge program and was the first teacher to implement the transformation lab in the classroom in the Sweetwater District.
