UCSD Courses and Teaching Assistantships
ScienceBridge brings science research into the classroom and brings science teachers into the research. Building relationships between teachers, students, undergraduates, and graduate level researchers is an important part of embracing education into the science community. Learn how to communicate your research to a wide variety of audiences and gain valuable teaching experience with a TA position.
Opportunities include earning UCSD Teaching Assistant credit. Graduate students in biomedical sciences can earn TA Credit for participating in a variety of ScienceBridge activities that suit your interest and schedule. Earn 52 volunteer hours and lead one online discussion in our forum on the topic of your research in one year (maximum) to earn a full TA credit. Volunteer hours will be kept track through the BioBridge website: sign up for a profile, and then sign up for events. Staff will confirm your attendance after the event happens.
Classes run throughout each quarter; many teachers implement multiple classes in one day, sometimes up to 6. Each high school class is equivalent to one hour. Assisting ScienceBridge staff with curriculum trainings is equivalent to 6 hours; these are typically on Fridays and Saturdays from 7:30am until 1pm or 2pm. You can also attend single classes with teachers, half day events with BioBridge, and a wide variety of other sessions to fulfill your TA credit requirements. To receive the credit for your online discussion, you must create a thread, post questions, reply to other user posts, and generally foster discussion on your research topic. You must post a minimum of twice a week for ten consecutive weeks or 35 times in one year.
